Somalia: Out break
of Bubonic plague possible in Somalia
Mogadishu Monday 07 Sep 2009 Shaaficiyah

The inhabitants in most of the districts in the Somali capital
Mogadishu are complaining of cluster of rats which disturb
them, especially during the night hours.
A team of Somaliweyn radio staff have decided to looked into
the matter, in several districts in the capital Mogadishu
such as Dharkenly, Wadajir, Hodan, Holwadag, Waberi and Hamarweyn
and found out that the complain of the inhabitants of these
districts from rats is entirely accurate.
We had some interviews with some of the locals in the districts
and most of the statements they were given were similarly
alike, for instant mother Farhiya Ahmed told the team this.
Yes rats are in every corner of the world, and though
I am not enough educated to guess where they generally dominate
is where there is less hygiene, what we have seen since our
last effective central government has gone is not what anybody
can believe, let be security wise let be anything else, but
for the last couple of months there had been clusters of rats
which are disturbing use during the night hours going into
the utensils piercing people with its sharp teeth when they
are dormant, during the heydays in Somali we had government
which will monitor the cleanness of every district, but now
this current government has not yet stood upright to stand
for our matters said Farhiya Ahmed speaking to Somaliweyn
monitoring team on Monday morning.
Like wise the pharmacies in these districts have proved for
the team that they almost everyday dress people with rat bites.
