Pakistan-Somalia agree to enhance trade relations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Somalia have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields including agriculture, food products, livestock, fish farming, textile and others.

 

Abdi Rashid Mohamed Abdi, Trade Minister of Somalia expressed these views during his visit to Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The minister said that Pakistan had great opportunities to enhance its trade and exports by establishing close business relations with Somalia as the latter is situated at a strategic location and is a gateway to get access to African markets. During the meting they identified pharmaceutical products, cement, leather products, hides etc. as potential areas of cooperation between Pakistan and Somalia. Abdi said Somalia was buying many products from other countries, which were available in Pakistan and now wanted to purchase these products directly from here. He said Pakistan could capture good share in Somalia?s markets by supplying good quality products at competitive rates. Most of the trade between Somalia and Pakistan was taking place via Dubai and he stressed for establishing direct trade links between the business circles of two countries for benefiting the economies. The minister said Somalia had good trade relations with India, Turkey, Indonesia and many other far eastern countries. However, his country was giving priority to promote trade ties with
