attack UN building in Wajid district.
Wajid17 August 2009 Shaaficiyah.com
Unidentified gunmen have overnight raided
at World Food Program premises at Wajid district in Bakool
region in southern Somalia.
The attack occurred at exactly 11:45pm local time and the
attackers faced challenge from the sentries of WFP who were
by then in full alert and denied access for the gunmen.
Both the attackers and the attacked have exchanged
fire which has been in action for 30 minutes, and three of
the gunmen have been killed in the crossfire while two others
were seriously wounded, but so far there are no reports of
casualties from both the WFP staff and their sentries.
The clash occurred when everybody in
the town was in soundless sleep, but woken up by the sounds
of the bullets which unidentified gunmen and WFP guards were
exchanging in fact I could not exactly know the fighting was
between who and, and remained in my houses since it was midnight,
but when the day broke I went to downtown to know about what
was happening overnight the first person whom I met was a
friend of mine who has given me a brief information about
what was taking place in the night, and told me to go and
see for myself the corpses of 3 men who were among the raiders
of WFP compound, I went towards WFP complex, and have seen
the 3 men for myself though their bodies were later taken
to Wajid police station where they are now, and the wounded
2 are expected to be taken to Baidoa were they will go under
treatment said Eden Nurow a resident in Wajid district
Wajid is 90km north of Baidoa town the previous
seat of the Somali government and it is under the authority
of Al-Shabab.
Some months ago the Islamists Al-Shabab has
said that all UN agencies should vacate wherever they are
controlling, because they said that all UN agencies are emissaries
for the western countries and are spying for them.
