Journalist Mohamed Yassin who works for Voice
of America has been jailed by soldiers at Galkayo town in
the semi-autonomous region of Puntland in eastern Somalia.
Some reports from the ground say that the journalist was arrested
after having announced that the security of the northern section
of the town is deteriorating.
The order in which the journalist was arrested
was given out by the President of the semi-autonomous region
of Puntland and the security Minister, according to reliable
reports which Waagacusub Website is getting from Galkayo town.
The association of Somali Journalists (ASOJ)
has denounced the arrest of the journalist, and urged the
authority of to immediately release the journalist. ASOJ has
termed the arrest of the journalist as been part of the tyrannical
rules of President Farole against the journalists and speech
of freedom.
There is immense political squabble, and anxiety
in the adminstarion of Puntland which has caused even journalist
to be arrested for the fact reports which they transmit to
the stations which they work for.
On the other hand Abdullah Hassan Ade another
local journalist working for radio Galkayo was arrested along
with the VOA correspondent, and it is not officially known
why the local journalist Abdullah was arrested.
Likewise the former chairman of Puntland state
Abdi Noor Gesey has also been arrested overnight while he
was in his house, and the talk point of Wednesday morning
was that the chairman is one of the ringleaders who are creating
instability in the region.
