Abdi Yare Ahmed Jama a Somali journalist,
who has been working for GBC TV and Radio in the Somali capital
Mogadishu, has safely reached Sweden after he fled for his
life.
The life of the Somali journalist in
Mogadishu is really horrible they are serving their people
in a terrible situation, and I have decide to leave the country
after the director of Shabelle radio Mukhtar Mohamed Hirabe
was killed, and his colleague Ahmed Tajir was seriously wounded
in the month of June this year, I have been working as a cameraman
for GBC and I have been receiving daily threatening phone
calls from unknown people saying that they will kill me, and
when I ask them why do they want to kill me they told me that
I have recorded them fighting, it is true that I have recorded
them fighting, but that was if I am allowed to do so, but
there is no specific person or group which I have recorded
I was present in Mogadishu when valuable colleagues of mine
such as Ali Iman Sharmarke, and Mahad Ahmed Elimi who were
the backbones of the Somali journalists were killed on the
11th of August 2007, the current situation of the Somali journalists
is more worse than even 2007, now the knife is on the throat
of every Somali journalist in the Mogadishu, and is merely
waiting to be slit said Abdi Yare a Somali Journalist.
Abdi Yare was among the Somali Journalists
who have stopped their work of Journalisim after the director
of Shabelle radio Mukhtar Mohamed Hirabe was killed and his
fellow workmate Ahmed Omar Hashi (Tajir) was seriously wounded
in the month of June this year inside Bakara market.
In Sweden there are several Somali journalist
who have fled from their own country, after they were tortured,
arrested or threatened by people who have disguised their
faces, and so far most of the veteran Somali journalists are
not in the country.
